Beginning as a three piece at the end of 2016, Madman set out to meld the styles of post-punk, stoner rock and psychedelia into a impervious wall of sound. Consisting of members from local favorites Faultfinder, U.S. Americans and Der Todesking, the trio released their first EP, Evil Fire, five slabs of hand-chiseled, lead-laden heavy rock, on Black Site in 2018.
In 2020, singer/guitarist Ben Biersmith remolded the group as a four-piece, incorporating collaborator Ben Summers from The Grisly Hand on guitars, Stephen Snow of Inner Altar on bass, and Chas Snyder of The New Riddim and The Hudson Falcons on drums. Hindered but not halted by the pandemic, the band played live sporadically and began recording again in 2022 with local legend Mike Tuley of Short Bus Kids, Olsen Terror and Ad Astra Per Aspera at his Purple Sky Studios. The result was the ferocious six-track EP, The Tycoon, released in the Fall of 2023.
Forever determined to forge steel with guitars, the band did not pause, heading back into the blast furnace to produce Into the Maze, four tracks that will pull you into the crushing, labyrinthine machine of the post-industrial promise. Recorded this time with Tuley and Chad Miese at his Massive Sound studio, the EP comes out on cassette in Summer of 2025.
