Blasting out of a small storage space in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Hummin’ Bird gives you the Southern twang punk rock you didn’t even know you were missing. This ain’t some store bought brand of basement schlock that never satisfies. Hummin’ Bird is as authentic as the cheap beer and truck stop food that keeps them fueled until the next gig.

In the Summer of 2021, on money earned at the craps table of a Kansas City casino, the band somehow managed to keep it between the ditches and entered Weights and Measures Soundlab to record its first full-length album, Underneath Scum Light. The combination of Mitch Woodson’s earnest vocal delivery/lyrics and Braden Franklin’s melodic guitar noodlin’ are enough to make you say, “wish I’d thought of that” out loud. Laid over the runaway rhythm section of Kiefer Bassett and Gray Hightower, this album took to tape like the band does to the bar stool. Pulling influence from Bruce Springsteen, Alkaline Trio and early Replacements, Underneath Scum Light’s heartfelt grit is guaranteed to turn some ears, and garner a few sideways looks.

In late 2018, after jammin’ for a short while and searching for a front man, Hummin’ Bird got to work booking their first tour using demos recorded on a phone. Substituting the phone for an open commissary kitchen/recording studio, in 2019 the band called in a few favors and put together their first EP, Gutter Glitter, the second release of the Barker Gee Memorial Scholarship series.

Breaded and crucified with welts from the Bible Belt, Hummin’ Bird was formed from the need to get the hell away from the streets you love. They know that a slow life sippin’ sweet tea can be easily had, but they’d rather slam Busch heavies in some rank basement on the road than stagnate in the oppressive heat of familiarity where “bless your heart” doesn’t really mean what you think.

Watch videos for the singles "Flat Earth For Dummies" and "Cowboy President".
